The Drakensberg Grand Traverse

The DGT is up there with the Annapurna Circuit, the Pacific Crest Trail and other world-famous trekking routes. The trek starts at Witsieshoek in the far northern 'Berg, traverses the entire length of the High 'Berg escarpment and ends at Bushman's Neck in the south. The distance of 220km is mostly above 3000m ASL and is best tackled in 10 - 14 days.  The DGT is very challenging but the stunning scenery makes it all worth it. Mini-traverses can also be arranged.

The Fish River Canyon

Another iconic hike, the Fish River Canyon is probably Africa's only desert trail that follows a river the whole way. The Canyon is said to be the second biggest in the world and a hike in it's depths can only be described as mind-blowing. The hike is approximately 90km & is usually done over 5 days. The first 12km is very strenuous but the terrain opens up after this &becomes relatively easy. The Canyon is only open May to September due to extreme heat in summer.
